Legends of the Basque Country-Original Soundtrack-Motivational Music, Author J. Bilbao

In Navarre, before the monarchy of the kings of Navarre was established, there lived in the valley of Goñi a lord called Teodosio, Buruzagia (Chief) of the region, married to Doña Constanza de Butrón. Shortly after his marriage, Teodosio had to leave his house to lead the fight against the Arabs.

Doña Constanza was left alone in her palace with Teodosio's parents, whom she had the courtesy to let sleep in the stately room, moving them to a smaller one. When Teodosio returned victorious to his castle, the devil appeared to him disguised as Basajaun ("The Lord of the Forests") who made him believe that his wife was cheating on him with a servant.

Teodosio, beside himself, gallops towards his house. At dawn he enters his palace and heads determined and furious to his marital room with his dagger unsheathed. He enters the bedroom and repeatedly stabs the two people sleeping in his bed, convinced that they are his wife and his lover.

Believing that he had avenged the evil, he leaves the house and, overwhelmed, meets his wife leaving the church. Terrified, he learns that those sleeping in his bed and whom he had murdered were his parents. Frightened by the crime, he goes to Pamplona to apologize to the bishop who, horrified, sends him to Rome so that the Pope himself absolves him of his sin.

Teodosio, repentant, makes a pilgrimage to Rome and the Pope absolves him, giving him as penance the dragging of thick chains until they are released by a divine miracle. This would be the unequivocal sign of divine forgiveness.

Teodosio, being retired in Aralar, saw one day a great dragon emerge from an abyss that threatened to devour him. Theodosius, helpless, fell to his knees and implored the protection of St. Michael, exclaiming Saint Michael, help me!

At that moment, amidst a great uproar, the Archangel appeared, displaying the cross over his head, defeating and killing the dragon, shouting (Nor Jaungoikoa bezala!) Who is like God!

At that very moment, Theodosius was freed from his chains, forgiven by God, who gave him a relic.

Once free, he returned to his home in Goñi where his wife was waiting for him. And both, grateful to God, erected a sanctuary to the Archangel on the summit of Aralar, which they called San Miguel in Excelsis. Legends of the Basque Country-Original Soundtrack-Motivational Music, Author J. Bilbao
